French regulator expands 5G private network trial

Arcep is extending its trial platform in the 3.8 – 4.0 GHz band for new innovative 5G use cases.

The regulator first opened its platform in March 2022 and has awarded 81 trial licences since. The availability of this platform will now be expanded until 31 December 2024 to enable additional trials and extend existing ones if applicable.

Arcep says it considers the trial platform to be a success, noting the diversity of stakeholders that are involved. It says existing licence holders cover an array of sectors, including manufacturing, energy, health and special events. Details of all current licence holders can be found on the regulator’s 5G trial platform dashboard.

The regulator says the awards procedure to apply for these local area licences will remain the same.
