The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) programme earmarks €129 million in funding for 6G projects.
The programme will be the basis for the third call for proposals by the partnership. The call will officially open in January 2024, but the applicants can already start working on their proposal’s preparation.
The SNS JU is a public-private partnership established by the European Union that aims to facilitate and develop industrial leadership in Europe in 5G and 6G networks and services.
The third call will include various different streams. The SNS JU says there will be a focus on projects with higher Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) that are closer to market. Projects should also contribute to standardisation efforts of 6G technology.
International collaboration is described as a “cornerstone” of the JU strategy which will foster partnerships with other countries (such as the Republic of Korea and Japan) to amplify the impact of the SNS JU.
Winners from the previous call for projects were announced in November. A total of 27 projects were selected in this phase, covering a wide array of 6G domains, including 6G system architecture, wireless communication technologies, signal processing, infrastructure technologies, experimental pan-EU federated infrastructure, pilots and verticals.
