The frequency band will be gradually released for 5G applications by March 2020 in Spain
Spain
The Spanish government confirmed that the government plans to auction spectrum in the 700 MHz band in the first quarter of 2019, which is currently utilized for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) services. This frequency band will be freed for 5G applications by March 2020. This migration process is expected to start in January 2019. The 700 MHz spectrum auction should raise up to EUR 1.05 billion ($1.14 billion) for the Spanish government.
Belgium
The Belgian Institute for Post and Telecommunications (BIPT) also outlined its step-by-step auction plan for 700 MHz. Belgian regulator BIPT announced that the bidding will start at a reserve price of EUR20 million (USD22.7 million) per block of 5MHz for 20-year permits.
Like in Spain, some channels in the 700 MHz frequency band are currently used for terrestrial TV broadcasting, thus the spectrum needs to be gradually released.
