The operator has been awarded a €25.5 million contract to connect select high-speed rail routes.
Through its joint venture with Sociedad Española de Empresas Industriales (SEMI), Vodafone Spain was awarded the contract from the national rail infrastructure operator ADIF. It will connect the high-speed rail routes of Albacete-Alicante and Barcelona-Figueras.
The scope of the contracts includes the design, construction, installation and maintenance of 5G infrastructure in the 700 MHz and 800 MHz bands along the rail route. Vodafone will deploy Ericsson’s 5G radios.
Deployment of the network will need to be completed before December 2025, with the maintenance set to last for three years after that.
