Apple adds support for private 5G to iPhone and iPad

The company has added support for data-only cellular networks in 4G and 5G configurations.

The feature will be included in the latest version of the company’s operating system iOS 17. It allows newer iPhone and iPad devices to be used as work devices in a private network configuration.

iOS 17 is currently in beta, but it is expected to be finalized in August 2023.

“iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 support Mobile Country Code 999, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standard for identifying private cellular networks. All Mobile Network Codes (MNC) are supported for Mobile Country Code (MCC) 999 private networks,” reads a statement on Apple’s website.
