The operator has deployed the network at a Ford factory in Valencia.
Vodafone says that its network will be used by the automobile manufacturer to validate components on the production line. Images and videos will be processed at the edge of the operator’s network, reducing latency and more quickly stopping the assembly line if issues are detected.
The network will also use Radio Positioning Systems (RPS) over 5G to track the location of components as they travel from the supplier to the factory and onto the final assembly line. This system will also track the temperature and humidity parameters of these components throughout their journey.
Vodafone says the initiative is being supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation which will finance up to 42% of the project’s €1.7 million budget.
