T-Mobile uses standalone 5G and network slicing at Formula 1 race

The operator was the official wireless provider for the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

T-Mobile expanded its network significantly for the race, which attracted over 300,000 visitors over the course of the weekend.

The operator installed temporary cells on wheels (COWs) to cover construction sites leading up to the event. It also installed four permanent new small cells along the Las Vegas Boulevard. Upgrades were also made to various indoor building locations nearby.

The operator also utilised 5G standalone (5G SA) and network slicing to support a network of over 100 point-of-sale terminals to maintain a consistent connection during the event. It also maintained the Wi-Fi network and supported critical communications for staff and race teams.
