T-Mobile says it will use Ericsson equipment for its upcoming 5G network. The company had previously used Huawei for its 4G network.
Ericsson has won the sole supplier contract for the renewal of T-Mobile Netherlands’ mobile radio network following an “intensive selection process”. Ericsson will also supply equipment for the company’s existing 3G and 4G networks.
The Dutch mobile operator said Ericsson “came out on top” following an assessment of equipment performance, sustainability and costs. T-Mobile Netherlands had previously relied on Huawei for parts of its network. The Chinese company was responsible for T-Mobile’s 4G network.
T-Mobile has its sights set on next year’s delayed 3.6 GHz spectrum auction to acquire more spectrum and raise its 5G capacity.
