Spain’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation (MINECO) says making this band available will serve as a national “stimulus for the implementation and development of 5G technology”.
This consultation seeks views from stakeholders about the demand for the band as well as use cases.
The 26 GHz band is one of the three pioneer bands identified by the EU Commission.
Despite the exploratory nature of this consultation, the agency says that it plans to award this band in the second half of 2022. MINECO also notes that making this band available is part of the country’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Neighbouring Portugal launched a similar consultation on the 26 GHz band last month.
