Vodafone has announced it is providing 5G connectivity for public transport in the Spanish city of Zaragosa.
An electric smart bus connected to Vodafone’s 5G network will be able to communicate in real-time with its surroundings and gather data on transport mobility in the city.
The bus, which will operate on route 40 in Zaragosa is also equipped with sensors that detect conditions such as weather, traffic and number of passengers for greater energy efficiency.
The project, led by public transport company Avanza, is part of the Zaragosa City Council’s Digizity initiative, which promotes zero-emissions and sustainable transport solutions for the city. The initiative has received funding from the EU’s NextGenerationEU economic recovery fund supporting digitalisation in the EU member states.
