Slovakia completes 3.5 GHz 5G auction

The country’s leading four operators all won licences in the award, which raised a total of €63.6 million.

The Slovak Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RÚ) said it sold a total of 400 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band.

Orange Slovakia, O2 Slovakia and Slovak Telekom all secured 100 MHz of spectrum in the band. SWAN won a 90 MHz licence.

“The aim of this auction was to encourage investment in new 5G technologies well before the expiry of the current individual licences in the 3600 MHz frequency band at the end of 2025,” said RÚ chairman Ivan Marták. The new licences will run from 1 September 2025 to 31 December 2045.

The 3.5 GHz is one of three 5G pioneer bands harmonised by the European Commission.
