Orange Spain trials 5G security in the port of Vigo

The mobile operator says it successfully tested a surveillance system that included the use of drones in the Spanish port.

The goal of the trial was to detect the presence of people in unauthorized areas and automatically sound an alarm in real-time. Orange worked with Ericsson and Gradient to conduct the trial.

Orange says that the minimal latency and high reliability for data transmission enabled by its 5G network were essential for autonomous drone operation.

This project is part of the Government’s 5G national plan, which is being promoted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.
