Infratel Italia, which is the government’s implementing body for broadband initiatives is making €567 million available for rural 5G.
Infratel is planning on awarding six lots, each of which cover different regions of Italy. Operators who win these lots are eligible to have 90% of the cost of building infrastructure covered.
Any infrastructure built must be suitable for providing speeds of at least 150 mbit/s downlink and 30 mbit/s uplink.
This is the second time this initiative has been launched. The previous iteration of the programme failed to attract interest from mobile operators.
Bidders have until June 10 to apply. More information can be found here.
