France awards 13 private 5G network licences in 3.8-4.0 GHz band

Various players including local authorities, universities and mobile operators have received licences.

The French regulator Arcep first opened up the 3.8-4.2 GHz band for 5G verticals in March. Now, 13 companies including Orange, Bouygues Telecom and EDF have received test licences. An overview of all license holders can be seen on Arcep’s website here. Arcep is encouraging more stakeholders to apply for the test licences.

The regulator has also simplified the application procedure for those seeking private 5G licences in the 2.6 GHz band. The changes to private spectrum licenses were first implemented following recommendations from the government-backed “Mission 5G Industrielle”.
