Croatia’s regulator HAKOM has awarded 5G spectrum at national level in the 800, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2600 MHz bands, and at regional level in the 3600 MHz band.
The licences run for 15 years, with a possible five-year renewal. Existing licences in the bands expire in 2024.
Croatian Telecom was the biggest bidder and awarded 2×10 MHz in 800 MHz frequency band, 2×15 MHz in 900 MHz frequency band, 2×30 MHz in 1800 MHz frequency band, 2×25 MHz in 2100 MHz frequency band and 2×25 MHz in 2600 MHz frequency band.
“Our customers, society and the economy will all greatly benefit from our 135.3 million EUR investment, as with us securing the largest share of spectrum the customers across Croatia will enjoy an even better network quality and market best experience. At the same time with our substantial contributions to State budget we are providing key support to the national digitalization plans“, stated Croatian Telecom’s CEO Kostas Nebis.
A1, the second biggest bidder of the auction, secured spectrum in the frequency bands of 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2600MHz. “With the acquisition of the spectrum we can even better meet the great challenges and expectations our customers have when it comes to a top-class mobile network,” said Alejandro Plater, chief operating officer of A1 Group.
