The ruling, which was made by the Lithuanian Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) will likely enable mobile operators to roll out 5G faster.
Deputy Head of RRT Augutis Česna revealed the news to a local press outlet. He says that in the past, mobile operators were barred from rolling out 5G services in existing spectrum bands.
Now, operators will be able to roll out 5G services in other bands, including the 2.1 GHz and 2.5 GHz bands. 5G can be rolled out in these bands using dynamic spectrum sharing technology (DSS).
Lithuania is currently in the process of awarding the 700 MHz band, with the initial application stage closing on March 25. The country has not yet assigned the 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz bands.
