Vodafone New Zealand announced 5G network tests in Mangere, Auckland ahead of the commercial launch of its 5G service in December 2019. The company announced that the trial was conducted on five cell sites, which were upgraded by Nokia technology. Furthermore, Vodafone said that 100 existing cell sites are being upgraded as part of the pre-launch phase and that they will include inner-city mobile towers in high population density areas such as business districts, shopping malls, event centers, and airports.
The largest operator in the country in terms of subscribers, having 40% of market share, will use 56MHz of spectrum on the 3.5GHz band.
