German carrier Vodafone has launched a standalone 5G network at Porsche’s research and development centre in Weissach, Germany.
The network will enable Porsche to develop new systems and features for its vehicles with the help of instantaneous data transmission.
Unlike most other 5G networks, the mobile communications architecture at Weissach is 5G standalone solution in the 3.5 GHz frequency range. This means that it does not have to rely on pre existing LTE infrastructure.
The project also has the ability to use network slicing, which could enable Porsche to create small sub-networks with guaranteed bandwidths and latency times for certain events and projects at the Development Centre.
