Vodafone says this will enable the university to begin developing 5G use cases.
German telecom operator Vodafone has launched a 5G standalone network at The University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein’s (UKSH) campus in Kiel.
Vodafone says in the future, patients at the UKSH will benefit from remote examinations, digital consultation, medical technology sensors connected via IoT, and artificial intelligence in diagnostics.
The telco also suggests 5G could be used in the operating theatre to wirelessly link medical devices that were previously connected with cables.
UKSH has also launched a competition to develop 5G use cases in a hospital environment.
