Vodafone demonstrates a hologram call using 5G in Newbury, UK
Vodafone demonstrated a holographic call between the Manchester City Women’s Football Captain, Steph Houghton, and a 11-years old fan, Iris, for a long-distance coaching session from Manchester to Newbury. The real time 3D hologram was projected via 5G during the Vodafone Future Ready Conference on the 20th of September to demonstrate 5G capabilities that enable upcoming applications such as remote robotic surgeries and 4K gaming on the move.
The demonstration follows the announcement by Vodafone in June 2018 of seven 5G trial cities (Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Manchester) that will comprise 1,000 5G sites by 2020. This was an opportunity for Vodafone to announce that Cornwall and the Lake District that will receive 5G during 2019, and to introduce the developing products and services around 5G, such as trackers for keys, luggage and pets.
