Verizon’s tenth 5G city since April 2019
In its push to launch millimeter wave-based 5G service in 30 cities by the end of the year, Verizon lit up its new network in Phoenix on August 22. The operator said 5G service will be available at the Phoenix Convention Center, Talking Stick Resort Arena, The Orpheum Theatre, CityScape, Chase Field and the Arizona State University campus in Tempe, Arizona.
Phoenix marks Verizon’s tenth 5G city since April, joining Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Providence, St. Paul and Washington, D.C.
Using the mmWave spectrum in the 28 GHz band, a Verizon-run speed test performed in a video accompanying the announcement achieved 5G download speeds of 1.6 Gbps in downtown Phoenix.
