The announcement came in a joint statement from the country’s mobile operators and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport.
Additionally, a target to sunset 2G and 3G networks by 2033 was also set.
The UK government described open network architectures as playing a “key role” in enhancing the security and resilience of networks but also acknowledged that more needs to be done to develop the performance, economics and security of new RAN solutions.
