TIM and Nokia deploy private 5G network at brazilian port

Brazilian mobile operator TIM is partnering with Nokia to develop a private 5G network in Brazil’s Santos port.

The companies say this is the first 5G private network on the Latin American continent. The project involves eight base station sites which cover the entire terminal area.

Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) which operates the port, says the private network will help boost operational efficiency at the site. The network is expected to enable remote and real-time monitoring of equipment, such as cranes as well as operational activities, managed from a monitoring centre.

The network will also be used to connect over 1,400 employees at the port.
