Three joins Vodafone and Eir in offering 5G services to customers
In late September 2020, Three started offering 5G commercial services with Ericsson’s equipment in a total of 315 sites across Ireland, reaching 35% of population coverage. The operator expects to add a further 500 5G-capable sites in 2021. Ericsson announced that the 5G network is powered by the vendor’s fully virtualised 5G Core and the latest products and solutions from its Radio System portfolio. Three joins Vodafone and Eir in offering 5G services to customers.
Vodafone Ireland launched 5G services in August 2019 in selected areas of five Irish cities, including Dublin and Waterford.
Eir launched its 5G service in 10 towns and cities in early December 2019. In September 2020, eir confirmed that its 5G network covered 29% of the population, with infrastructure now available in 21 towns and cities.
