A special advisory committee to the Dutch government has released its recommendation for moving forward on the delayed spectrum award.
The independent advisory body has recommended that the 3.6 GHz band is sold by December 2023, with a total of 300 MHz awarded. The 3.6 GHz band is one of the European pioneer bands.
The majority of the 3.6 GHz band is currently used by satellite company Inmarsat. The committee recommends Inmarsat relocates to Greece when its licence expires. In the meantime, the satellite operator should be allowed to use 80 MHz in the band during the transition period.
The Dutch government is now preparing a response to these recommendations, which should become available before the summer.
