Telefonica (O2) became on October 17, the latest mobile operator to switch on its 5G network in the UK. Services are available in six cities and towns: Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, and Slough. The network will initially be available where it is needed most, including railway stations, shopping centers, and sports stadiums. The network will be live in a total of 20 towns and cities by the end of the year, and 50 by summer 2020.
Telefonica is offering several 5G plans at the same price as its 4G equivalents. The less expensive includes 5 GB of data for 25 GBP (29 EUR). The most expensive plan offers unlimited 5G data for 40 GBP (approx. 46 EUR).
O2 has also released an exclusive partnership tariff with Oculus from Facebook and MelodyVR, the destination for music in virtual reality, giving customers exclusive VR music experiences. Tariffs come with 12 months subscription to MelodyVR and an Oculus Go virtual reality headset (8 GBP more expensive than the 5G plans).
The operator is offering four 5G smartphones: the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, Galaxy A90 5G, and the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G.
