The companies have also agreed to share their findings with the GSMA and the wider industry.
Telefónica says that it has successfully trialled end-to-end automated network slicing in a 5G standalone network. The trial was conducted in partnership with Ericsson.
The demonstration successfully showed end-to-end orchestration for full slicing life cycle support and radio resources partitioning. Ericsson says it was able to configure and deploy the network slice from core to radio in less than 35 minutes.
The test was performed on Android 12 and 13 beta smartphones and covered a range of use case scenarios requiring specific service configurations. Use cases tested include 360-degree video production, remote control of an automated vehicle and gesture recognition. Telefónica says full automation of network slicing is a key success factor in bringing the concept into mass use.
The test was carried out at 5TONIC lab in Madrid, which was founded by Telefónica and IMDEA Networks.
