Spanish auctions
The 3.6-3.8 GHz spectrum auction in Spain began on 18 July 2018 and ended after four days of bidding. The auction of 200 MHz of spectrum in the 3.6-3.8 GHz band (40 blocks of 5 MHz) reached bids of 437.7 million EUR, far above the reserve price of 100 million EUR (2.5 million EUR per block). A spectrum cap had been set at 120 MHz per bidder.
Vodafone Spain paid 198 million EUR for 90 MHz of spectrum. Telefonica paid 107 million EUR for 50 MHz, Orange Spain paid around 132 million EUR for 60 MHz (Orange could not bid for more than 80 MHz as it already owns 40 MHz of 3.4-3.6 GHz spectrum won in 2016). MasMovil competed in the auction but did not win additional spectrum: it already owns 80 MHz it obtained earlier in 2018 from two separate deals (40 MHz from the acquisition of the satellite company Eurona, and 40 MHz from the acquisition of B2B service provider Neutra Network).
