Spain has announced plans to fund 5G infrastructure in areas with poor mobile data coverage.
The plan is part of the government’s post-Covid national recovery plan. The government says that facilitating the development of 5G is important due to the emergence of 5G verticals and new use cases.
Those who qualify for the funding will be required to grant at least four mobile service providers access to the new infrastructure.
Infrastructure providers will be required to cover certain areas considered to have poor mobile coverage. The areas with the most funding available include Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, and Castilla y León.
Companies have until July 29 to submit their funding applications. Projects will need to be completed by the end of 2024.
