Report: Fixed Wireless Access could become 5G “killer app”

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) will experience rapid growth in the United States, according to consulting firm Global Data.

A new report by Global Data suggests the technology will capture 9% of the broadband market in the US by 2026. This would amount to 10.43 million FWA subscriptions. The firm estimates subscriptions will hit 1.95 million in 2022.

Global Data credits this momentum to a “perfect storm” of enabling factors including high user demand and government funding for broadband.

“FWA may be one of the killer apps for 5G, not only on its own merits but because it can also be bundled with mobile service, helping operators boost their brand affinity and customer retention,” says Tammy Parker, Principal Analyst at Global Data.
