A new report titled ‘The Mobile Economy China 2024’ reveals 5G-related datasets and predictions.
The mobile industry association says China has surpassed 800 million 5G connections at the end of 2023, and it expects this to rise to 1 billion by the end of 2024.
The GSMA says that operators are now ready for the “next phase” of the technology’s development which increased investment in 5G-Advanced. This, it says will enable the industry to focus on new growth opportunities.
The report also suggests that 5G’s contribution to China’s GDP is expected to reach almost $260 billion by 2030. This makes up 23% of the overall annual economic impact of mobile in China.
The report also examines key trends across the mobile industry in China: the role of 5G-Advanced and 5G RedCap; the impact of network API initiatives; the introduction of 5G New Calling; the growing number of telco-satellite partnerships; and the potential of generative AI.
