Italian government makes €2bn in incentives available for 5G

The announcement was made by Infratel Italia, which says the funds will be used to improve 5G infrastructure in the country.

Infratel says it hopes the funds will be used to connect 10,000 existing mobile sites to the fibre network and install new 5G infrastructure in underserved areas.

Infratel is Italy’s implementing body for the Governments broadband initiatives.

Interested parties will have until April 27 to submit bids for the funding. A total of six geographic lots will be available and infrastructure improvements must be completed by June 2026.
