Traficom invited bids in the 26 GHz spectrum auction
Traficom, Finland’s Transport and Communications Agency, invited bids in the 26 GHz spectrum, announcing that registrations must be submitted to the Finnish Agency by 20 May 2020. Traficom said the additional frequencies will provide more capacity and greater speed for communications connections.
The auction will include three licences in the 26GHz band, each offering access to an 800MHz block of spectrum covering all of mainland Finland, with a starting price of €7 million. A maximum of one licence will be granted to each company, organisation or association.
The frequency band can be used for 5G networks as of 1 July 2020 and the licence is valid in mainland Finland until 31 December 2033.
To date, there have been two spectrum auctions for 5G in Finland: the 700MHz band frequencies were assigned in November 2016 and the 3.6 GHz band spectrum auction took place in September 2018.
