The mobile operator says it’s the first mobile operator in Finland to launch standalone 5G.
Elisa says its standalone 5G (5G SA) subscription went on sale on the 8th of February for consumers. It will be available to business customers in the spring.
The operator describes 5G SA as the “next step in the evolution of the mobile network”. It says the technology will provide better connection quality and reduce latency by up to 50%. It also says the technology will bring better battery life and says devices connected to a standalone network also last as much as 15–20% longer.
To access the 5G SA, users will need to use a device that supports the technology. Elisa says initially the Samsung S23 and A34 phones will be the first to support its standalone network. The operator says more devices will be added soon.
