The German mobile operator conducted the test with BMW and Valeo.
In the test, a driver dropped off his car at the entrance of a Munich parking garage. The car was then autonomously driven to the next free parking space.
The test was conducted over Deutsche Telekom’s public 5G network, however, the operator says that traffic from the car can be prioritised over mobile connections.
Deutsche Telekom describes the trial as “convincing” and says it was conducted with “absolute stability and security”.
Deutsche Telekom says the trial used Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) developed by the international CAMARA project. CAMARA is an open-sourced project launched by the Linux Foundation to develop coherent APIs for mobile operators.
