The German mobile operator has begun construction of a private 5G network at the Port of Duisburg.
Deutsche Telekom says it will use the network to trial semi-automated control of cranes at the port. The project is funded in part by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia through the 5G.NRW competition. It will provide around €1 million in funding over the next two years.
The project is being conducted in collaboration with the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport), startport GmbH, Deutsche Telekom and POLO KNOW-HOW Industrie-Engineering GmbH are also involved in the project.
