Digi says it will enter the market with prices that have “never before” been seen in the country.
The new entrant is aiming to build its own network to compete with the country’s three existing mobile network operators (MNOs). Initially, Digi will operate largely as an MVNO, leasing capacity from Proximus. Eventually, the operator wants to build its own network with 4500 antennas. It plans to cover 30% of the country with its own network by the end of next year (2025).
While Digi hasn’t committed to a specific pricing strategy, the company says its services will be priced very competitively. Currently, prices for mobile broadband in Belgium are higher than in neighbouring countries.
Digi Belgium is a joint venture between the Belgian company Citymesh, which offers enterprise telecom services, and the Romanian telecom group Digi, which is already active in four European countries (in addition to Romania, also Spain, Portugal and Italy) with a total of 24 million customers.
