Austria prepares to auction 3.6 GHz, 26 GHz spectrum

Austrian spectrum regulator RTR has launched a public consultation on tender conditions for its upcoming auction of 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz spectrum.

1400 MHz in the 26 GHz band will be awarded, as well as the residual frequencies in the 3.6 GHz band from the 2019 award.

The frequencies in the 26 GHz band will be awarded at a national level. They will be split up into 400 MHz in the duplex gap (25.5 – 25.9 GHz) and 1000 MHz at the upper end of the band (26.5 – 27.5 GHz).

The frequencies in question in the 3600 MHz band will be allocated at a regional level. Depending on the region, they will be auctioned in blocks between 10 and 60 MHz.

At the moment, the RTR assumes that the auction could start in December 2023 at the earliest.

The regulator plans to publish the formal tender document in September. Comments due by 08 August to tkfreq@rtr.at.
