The announcement comes only a few months after Austria completed its 26 GHz auction.
Austria’s recent auction, in which A1 acquired spectrum in the 26 GHz band, “is bearing the first fruit,” the operator announced.
A1 has for the first time, equipped a 5G station with mmWave, giving customers bandwidths of up to 2 Gbits/s over its network.
Using 5G in an mmWave band allows the MNO to “bring the fiber optic users experience into the world of mobile communications,” said A1. It doesn’t replace fibre, but it allows A1 to offer “extreme speeds and bandwidths over 5G.” mmWave is critical to support the next generation of 5G applications and services, the company said.
