The corneal surgery was completed successfully over a 5G connection at the Bari Polyclinic in Italy.
Professor Gianni Alessio conducted the laser surgery operation from the eye clinic’s management office, while the patient was in the operating theatre assisted by a surgical control team.
TIM Group had provided the clinic with the 5G infrastructure with a latency of less than 50 milliseconds between the remote control station and the laser, which made the operation possible.
Two 5G radio modules were installed: one inside Professor Alessio’s room and one in the operating theatre. The modules were interconnected directly to the TIM Core Network through 10Gbps fiber optic access.
