Political agreement reached on the 2030 Policy Programme: Path to the Digital Decade

The European Parliament and the Council of the EU have reached a political agreement on the programme.

The European Commission has welcomed this agreement, which is now subject to formal approval by the two co-legislators. Once approved, the Digital Decade policy programme will enter into force.

The Path to the Digital Decade Policy programme sets up a monitoring and cooperation mechanism to achieve common objectives for Europe’s digital transformation set out in the 2030 Digital Compass.

The European Commission has said it will begin working with Member States to develop key performance indicators (KPIs) in preparation for the first annual report on the “State of the Digital Decade” which may be published as soon as June 2023.

“The Digital Decade is about making digital technology work for people and businesses. It is about enabling everyone to have the skills to participate in the digital society,” says Executive Vice-President for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age, Margrethe Vestager.
