The Swedish regulator PTS has released new 2023 broadband mapping figures.
PTS says that the coverage of 5G networks has increased significantly. 5G coverage has seen a 33% jump since 2022 when it stood at just 57%. In rural areas, 5G now reaches 67% of households (compared to 29% in 2022).
Yet despite this increase, the coverage targets set by Sweden have not yet been achieved. The Swedish government says good and stable mobile coverage should be provided by 2023 in all areas where people normally spend time, including on roads, railways, businesses and holiday homes.
The coverage figure for these areas currently stands at 95%. Although this target has not yet been achieved, PTS notes that in these particular areas, coverage is increasing the fastest, suggesting good progress is being made.
