The latest figures reveal that the number of 5G connections in Romania has grown to 2.3 million since 2022.
Romania’s regulator Ancom has published new statistics on the state of the telecommunications market in 2023. Although take-up of 5G has grown, the figures suggest that 4G still dominates. The total number of active connections in the country have risen to 21.5 million. Of these, 17 million use 4G and/or 5G.
The average mobile data use has also grown to almost 11 GB per inhabitant. This is an increase of 32% since 2022.
Measured by the number of connections, the largest operator in Romania is Orange which handled 36% of connections, RCS&RDS (Digi) was responsible for 27% and Vodafone handled 23% of the total connections.
Ancom also published financial figures, which reveal that revenues in the wider telecom sector stayed flat at RON 16.9 billion in 2023 (EUR 3.4 billion). Fixed and mobile internet generated 37% of total revenues, while mobile telephony generated 29%.
