Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt completed the acquisition of available 5G spectrum
Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt completed the acquisition of available 5G spectrum for $379 million. They now share frequencies in the 700MHz, 3.5GHz and 1400MHz bands. Swisscom spent up to $200 million of the total sum, bagging the largest chunk of the 1400MHz spectrum band. The high competition and rise of spectrum prices lead Dense Air, the London based MNO, to drop out of the bidding process.
The obtained licenses are valid for 15 years, and should provide the operators with the needed capacity for the implementation of high-speed mobile data services to support the deployment of future applications. Swisscom announced plans for rolling out 5G in 60 towns and communities by the end of 2019.
