Germany’s emerging fourth mobile operator has completed the first live test of its in-house 5G network.
1&1 says it completed the test under real conditions in July and achieved speeds of over 1 Gbps and a latency of just 3ms. The company says these results were above expectations.
1&1 expects to launch 5G services for home customers by the end of this year. It will offer services to mobile customers in 2023.
The company will eventually need to cover 50% of Germany’s population with 5G services by 2030. This requirement is set out in the licence conditions attached to the 5G spectrum that 1&1 acquired in 2019.
