Telekom has announced that it is going to be offering 5G contracts for the BMW iX. This is the first time a premium car manufacturer will offer 5G to a globally available production vehicle. Deutsche Telekom and the BMW Group are using Personal eSIM and MobilityConnect to link vehicle connectivity with the customer’s mobile network.

German carrier Vodafone has launched a standalone 5G network at Porsche’s research and development centre in Weissach, Germany. The network will enable Porsche to develop new systems and features for its vehicles with the help of instantaneous data transmission.

Nokia won a tender with German rail company Deutsche Bahn to test and deliver standalone 5G for autonomous trains and rail operations. The Hamburg proof will test whether 5G is “mature enough” to be used as the connectivity layer for rail operations.

The 5G-PICTURE Project showcased its Railway demonstration on November 13th in Barcelona. The Railway vertical is a case for a shared 5G multitenant network. The multiservice railways network developed in the 5G-PICTURE project will reduce investment and accelerate 5G NR deployment in railways.
