Deutsche Telekom launches “Hybrid 5G”

The German operator has launched a new service which combines its fixed broadband service with 5G.

The service will use a Speedport Smart 4 router which automatically switches between the fixed and mobile network, depending on which network is the fastest. Deutsche Telekom says the service will provide download speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s and upload speeds of 50 Mbit/s.

An outdoor 5G receiver is required, which attaches to the outside of a building. Deutsche Telekom says this can be installed independently by the customer.

The Hybrid 5G add-on option will be free of charge for existing customers with a low DSL bandwidth (MagentaZuhause XS and S). It will cost €4.95 per month for all other MagentaZuhause rate plans
