Telecom Italia (TIM) says it has achieved a speed of 1Gbps over a long-distance fixed-wireless access (FWA) link using 26GHz millimetre wave (mmWave) 5G technology.
Wholesale network operator Open Fiber and FWA provider Linkem partnered to trial 5G broadband wireless technology utilising Linkem’s 3.5GHz frequency licence. The firms say they will carry out tests aimed at providing improved 5G connectivity for users in rural regions.

Fastweb launched live 5G trials in the city of Genoa along with equipment partner Ericsson. The operator said the 5G infrastructure enabled it to ‘implement innovative video surveillance projects, virtual reality solutions to enhance cultural heritage, an environmental monitoring system to control air quality, and manage lighting systems’.
