5G trials call for 26 GHz in France

Application procedures are open to third parties and available from 31 January to 31 March 2019

The French government and the national regulatory authority, Arcep, issued a call for 5G trials in the 26 GHz frequency band in France. This frequency band was never used for mobile networks until now, therefore the necessity of testing real life situations over these frequencies. Moreover, the 26 GHz band that was identified as the pioneer band in Europe by the Radio spectrum Policy Group (RSPG).
The application procedures will be available from 31 January to 31 March 2019 and will be open to third parties. The companies securing the trial spectrum will be able to use the 26 GHz frequency band for the next three years with a favourable regulatory framework.
The target is to identify new use cases enabled by these frequencies and drive market players to use 26 GHz frequencies in order to create open trial platforms using small-scale 5G networks. The targeted players include innovative technology companies, start-ups and “vertical” players in health, energy, smart cities, and others.
